Reading Club and Cosplay – Mark your calendars!

Love books?  Gasp in shock when someone has not read your favorite book?  Then, you need to stop by for our Reading Club.  We will meet during all lunches on Wednesday, November 5th in the library conference room.   You may bring your lunch.  Be prepared to discuss books to movies …. which is better – the book or the movie.  Why?

Also, Cosplay Friday is rescheduled to Thursday, November 6th.  The theme is heroes vs. villains.  Win prizes for the best costume!  Remember that your costume needs to match dress code.

Ferocious Friday

What else do you call a Friday where Mrs. Myers travels to Dr. Epps room for a Banned Books talk, Mrs. Layne travels to Mrs. Byers room to teach DISCUS, Cosplay Friday rocks the library during lunch, and the Freshman social studies classes use the library space for Constitution Day?   Ferocious of course – and we love it that way!

All day long, different members of the community (thank you Jacqueline Moss-Oglesby, Abel Gray, Brittany Scott, and Monier Abusaft) spoke to social studies classes about the Constitution and what to do if you are stopped by a police officer.

sep 19 epps got a question rightMrs. Myers ran upstairs to Dr. Epps room three different periods to talk to the students about Banned Books Week.  Students played a Kahoot game to test for prior knowledge.  Then, Mrs. Myers used Keynote to share a YouTube Banned Books Week channel video, statistics from ALA, titles that were banned and reasons why, and a map showing where books were banned in the United States.

Mrs. Layne also ran up and down stairs to Mrs. Byers classes to show students how to find information in DISCUS.  They will use this knowledge when working on their author reports.

Finally, during lunches, students came dressed up for Cosplay Friday.  The theme was come dress as a character from Disney, Pixar, or Dreamworks.  Congratulations to Olivia who dressed like Rapunzel from Tangled and to Zakiya who dressed like Tiana from the Princess and the Frog movie.  They won a book of their choice, a bracelet, and a button.
